Is it a Real Diamond Ring?
What is the actual difference between a real diamond ring and a cubic zirconia
ring? Did my boyfriend give me genuine diamond engagement ring or is it cubic
zirconia ring? Why is cubic zirconia quickly becoming more popular as a
desirable substitute for diamond? Gemologists agree that CZ comes closer than
any other gem material to matching the characteristics of a diamond. In order to
accurately distinguish the two gems, gemological equipment such as microscope,
or loupe, must be used for testing and verification.
One great difference
between a diamond ring and a CZ ring is weight. CZs are heavier in comparison to
diamonds; a CZ ring will weigh approximately 1.75 times more than a diamond ring
of equivalent size. So basically, a CZ ring that's the same size as a one-carat
diamond ring weighs about 1.75 carats. A CZ ring will be virtually flawless,
whereas a genuine diamond ring usually contains impurities and inclusions, or
have some sort of defect.
If your unable to tell the difference between a genuine diamond ring and a cubic zirconia ring, then take your ring to a gemologist. Only there will you get a reliable answer.
