Gauge by the rise: The jeans shouldn’t feel tight in the crotch or too comfortable (which means they’re too big). If the crotch feels right but the jeans are tight at the rear or thighs, the denim will give and wear well with time. If the waistband has you hanging out, that’s a sign you should try a different style of women’s jeans altogether.

If you want to salvage stretched out jeans and make them smaller you can shrink them in the dryer. Just keep in mind that your jeans will return to their previous state after you wear them for a while. The dryer will also cause fading and shrinking the the length of your stretch jeans.
